Samarin: I am glad that I managed to break into the top six skaters

Recently, Russian singles are the main hopes, discoveries and sensations in the world of figure skating. However, this season our men – Alexander Samarin and Dmitry Aliyev – also made us talk about ourselves, making our way to the Grand Prix finals, which will be held in Turin from December 5 to 8. The comments of experts are optimistic about the medal prospects at the main starts of the season – European and world championships.
Complex elements require concentration, but Alexander Samarin tries to make the program harmonious: to reveal the image, to work with the audience. . Complex elements require concentration, but Alexander Samarin tries to make the program harmonious: to reveal the image, to work with the audience.
Complex elements require concentration, but Alexander Samarin tries to make the program harmonious: to reveal the image, to work with the audience.
Alexander Samarin told RG correspondent about his ambitions and goals.

Alexander, at the Moscow stage of the Grand Prix, the Russians occupied the entire podium. This happened only once – 21 years ago, when Urmanov, Plushenko, Abt rode around. Maybe this is the beginning of something more in our modern men’s skating?

For Samarin, jumping the most difficult quads is not a risk, this is a conscious decision. This is the only way to compete with the best skaters in the world
Alexander Samarin: It turned out great, cool. Glad for myself, for the guys – Dmitry Aliyev, Makar Ignatov. For our coaches, for the country. I think this is a very good achievement. Moreover, for me it was a debut in the home tournament, and I immediately won. Reporters said for the first time since Evgeni Plushenko in 2009. You also called the names of our great athletes – Urmanov, Yagudin. When he was little, he looked at them. They have achieved incredible results. We are still rising, growing, setting goals and going towards them. Everything is achievable. The main thing is to work.

At the European Championship 2019, you won silver and surprised everyone with your willingness to take risks, but to jump in the same program and the quadruple lutz, and the quadruple flip …

Alexander Samarin: In Europe, no one did this jump. I wanted to be the first.

At the Grand Prix stage in France, you became the first Russian to make these elements in a short program. But in arbitrary with the flip fell. In Moscow, this quadruple also did not work out. Does risk still pay off?

Alexander Samarin: Now there is no risk. These elements are, they are ready. I just make ridiculous mistakes, because of which I can’t show the program as planned. But this is no longer a reckless risk, it is a deliberate decision. And it’s worth it. With this content, I am able to compete with the leaders of men’s single skating.

Evgenia Medvedeva says that girls simply have a cult of four. Is it routine and necessity for you?

Alexander Samarin: When I began to learn quadruples, I realized that without them nowhere would be possible. It is necessary to jump, and not one at a time, or even two at a time. And do it stably so that the program looks harmonious. Yes, you are right, it is a necessity. And the fact that girls give out such rentals only spurs. Anya Shcherbakova Lutz mastered, which not all men jump. But we have more strength. So we should jump more, better. Do not give in to them.

American Nathan Chen twisted and landed six quadruples in the free program at the post-Olympic world championship. What is your limit of possibilities?

Alexander Samarin: I do not want to talk about my maximum. In the free program at the Grand Prix in Moscow, I generally jumped only a quadruple lutz in a cascade with a triple toe loop. Although I planned to make another flip and sheepskin coat. So talking about my limit is talking about nothing. It is necessary to go out and do at the start what is stated in the content, and what happens in training.

What are the errors associated with? With psychology, since you say that the jumps are worked out?

Alexander Samarin: No, these are technical points. Still, training is one thing, and starting is another. Maybe he relaxed a little, didn’t fully control the situation, so the mistakes were stupid and ridiculous, which I don’t allow in the training process. Even the sediment from the victory in Moscow remained, because it was not a cut above the opponents, although the “gold” was taken in the struggle, primarily with itself. I don’t want to delve into working moments, but we continue to move forward with my team – coach Svetlana Sokolovskaya and choreographer Vitaly Butikov.

In addition to technology, you have to work on expression, expressiveness. You are a very collected, restrained person. On the podium even smiled faintly.

Alexander Samarin: I am working on this moment. With each start I open more and more on the ice. We try to make the program look as a whole, from start to start it turns out to better reveal the image, work with the viewer. It is clear that technical content influences the situation, I am trying to concentrate extremely on the elements. But in general, you need to be able to, regardless of the complexity of the program, not show the viewer what is hard for you.
