The new season is gaining momentum in figure skating. And while adult athletes are still trying their hand at class “B” tournaments, the juniors have already figured out which of them will compete for awards in the World Grand Prix finals. The chance to speak at one of the key starts of the year was also received by the Sverdlovsk couple – Alina Pepelova and Roman Pleshkov.
Recall for those who for the holidays forgot the rules of the World Grand Prix, that at the junior level seven stages of the series are held. One athlete or couple can take part in two of them. The top six skaters in the stages get into the finals.
This year, three Sverdlovsk citizens were to take part in the Grand Prix at once: in addition to Alina and Roman, Polina Kostyukovich and Dmitry Yalin were declared for the competition – it was Dmitry who was starting his career in our area. Moreover, the Kostyukovich-Yalin couple was considered the main contender for victory in the world series, since a year ago she won silver awards in the final.
Coaches of the couple note that athletes cope with the transitional age of the partner. This was said in an interview with OG six months ago by Dmitry himself: “Since I’m older and have more experience, I seem to see myself from the outside – sometimes it seems that now I have to stay a bit in place of my coaches. I understand which side to approach, what to say to Pauline. Well, once it works. ” By the way, Polina Kostyukovich is now 16 years old, and Dmitry is 21. And apparently, the emotional state of the athlete still causes the couple great difficulties. Therefore, instead of world-class, the guys are speaking Russian this season (they became second in the first stage of the Russian Cup a week ago).
Now back to Alina Pepelova and Roman Pleshkov. They began to ride in the youth school “Locomotive” in Yekaterinburg: Roman – with coach Elena Levkovets, Alina – with Alexander Tarasov. Now the skaters continue their sports career in Moscow with specialists from the team of the famous coach Nina Moser.
This is the second season when the Sverdlovsk residents show very decent results at the level of the country and the world. Prior to this, they managed to win the Cup of Russia, take fourth place in the national championship and perform at the Grand Prix in Australia. And now they have already swung for more, reaching the finals of the world series. By the way, as always, in the competition of sports pairs among juniors, Russians dominate – in the UGP finals, which will be held in Turin from December 5 to 8, out of six possible duets, five are ours. But this does not mean at all that it will be easier for Alina and Roman from this, especially since the prize money for the first place is more than half a million rubles.
But Nina Moser herself believes in the guys, who, in a commentary by RIA Novosti, noted that they “today own all the elements of pair skating of the highest level of difficulty. Amplitude, harmony in movement, beauty – that with experience will become the trump card of this pair. ” In addition, the program was put to them by the famous Italian specialist Pasquale Camerlengo.
And another interesting detail – for the free program that Roman and Alina roll to compositions from the musical “Romeo and Juliet”, the children were allowed to take spectacular costumes of the most famous students of Moser, Olympic champions Tatyana Volosozhar and Maxim Trankov.
In Italy, the Grand Prix finals will be very hot in general. In the female form, the incredible student of Eteri Tutberidze, Kamila Valieva, who has four jumps (!) And the US prodigy Alisa Liu, the youngest US championship winner in history, will share the gold medals among themselves. In August of this year, she was the first in the world in one program to perform the most difficult jumps – the quadruple lutz and the triple axel. This will be one of the most interesting moments of the season, you can not miss it.
By the way, in solo skating, the Sverdlovsk native – a native of Nizhny Tagil and another star from the Tutberidze team – Maya Khromykh could also reach the finals. Maya literally burst into the elite of junior figure skating, when at the first stage of the Grand Prix after the short program she left behind the very Camila Valieva and took first place. But there was not enough experience – following the results of two programs, she became the third, and at the next stage the fourth, stopping a step from the final.
